The Cartographer He Betrayed

Tamsin Vega is the last free cartographer — the only living mapmaker who can draw ground the empire hasn't claimed. The empire wants her maps. The resistance wants her maps. The man who sold her to both is Ren Kestrel, her former partner, who betrayed her nine years ago and has run the imperial map-room ever since. When Tamsin is arrested for sedition, Ren breaks her out of prison and tells her the only thing she has ever wanted from him: the truth. For nine years he has been falsifying every map he sent the emperor, preserving the last free province one lie at a time. Tamsin doesn't believe him. Then she reads his notebooks. Together they will draw one more map — and send an army into a valley that isn't there.
