The Baker She Buried

Fern Ives has been dead for a year. Everyone in Ashwood Village agrees she walked off the pier after closing time — everyone except her sister, Mireille, who runs the bookshop next door and still can't look at the bakery's new pastry case. Then a customer bites into a cinnamon roll and finds a tooth. It isn't Fern's. The bakery's glitzy new owners are buying up Main Street one bankruptcy at a time, and Fern's ledger — hidden in a hollowed-out cookbook on Mireille's own shelves — says Fern was an unwilling investor in their scheme. When a florist and a cobbler die in 'accidents' weeks apart, Mireille knows the glossy couple are burying more than bad pastry. At the fall harvest festival, Mireille serves up the truth in front of the whole town. Not everyone at the table wants dessert.
