Texting the Executive

I answered a wrong-number text at 1 a.m. because I couldn't sleep and he wrote in full sentences. Six weeks later I knew his dog's name, his insomnia, and the way he felt about his father. I did not know his last name. Then I walked into my new job and found out he owns the building. Rafael Reyes can't fire me. He can't stop texting me either. So we made rules — in a shared note, like cowards — no messages during work hours, no feelings, no exceptions. We broke all three by Thursday. When someone screenshots us and puts it on the floor channel, he doesn't flinch. He tells the board who he is to me, and offers to resign. I'm not going to let him. I'm going to take the promotion they owe me, and then I'm going to text him something that isn't a rule.
