Tangled in the Capo's Wires

Frankie Okafor runs a podcast studio out of a strip mall and takes cash jobs when the rent is due. The man on the phone said 'family recordings.' The recordings are wiretaps. The family is the Marchetti family. And the fifth voice she hears on tape 14 belongs to her uncle, a decorated police captain who has been selling the ports for nine years. Tomasso Marchetti finds her listening and decides the safest place for her is his basement, at his console, under his eye. She talks too much, sleeps at the board, and untangles his cables without asking. He does not smile, does not explain, and does not let her out of his sight. When her uncle's handler comes for the tapes, Frankie builds a trap inside a single audio file — one tone, buried, delivered with both hands. After that, neither of them knows where the work ends and the wanting begins.
