Sisters and Secrets

Camille swore she would never come back to this county. Nineteen years, one law degree, and a husband she doesn't talk about have kept her word. Then her mother dies, and there is Jolene on the porch of the farmhouse, older, thinner, holding a shotgun she doesn't put down. The will leaves everything to Jolene. Camille, who left, gets a box of letters. Nothing else. But there is a man in the county nursing home who signs the register as Ellis, and Camille recognizes the hands. There is a guardianship paper with Jolene's signature dated fifteen years ago. There is a fire that killed two people, and one of the sisters was holding the match. Neither of them has told the whole truth to anyone. Not the police. Not their mother. Not each other. They have one drive left to make, together, and it isn't to the church.
