Saving the Underboss

Wren Adeyemi has hidden her hands for ten years in a veterinary clinic in Astoria, where all the patients have fur and can't tell anybody. Then a black SUV parks in the alley behind her building at two in the morning and a man in his early fifties is walked in with a wound in his side, and she does what she always does, which is panic and fix it in front of two witnesses. Andrei Volkov has run Brooklyn delivery routes for the Volkov family for thirty years, has wanted out for six, and knows the exact price of what the woman in front of him just did. He hides her in a garage apartment in Greenpoint, brings her food, and never once asks her to heal him again. Three months later the family sends someone to look at her, and Wren has to decide what her hands are worth, in front of people who have been priced on their whole lives.
