Salvage and the Sergeant's Secret

I ran the Vipers' dispatch for ten years. I was the voice that told them where the wreck was and who was bleeding. Cash called me his wife behind closed doors and introduced me as 'the dispatcher' in front of a badge. I stayed anyway, until the night my father died and Cash was in the clubhouse hall with the treasurer's girlfriend instead of at the hospital. Six years later a stolen bolt drops in my scrap bin and Cash is at my yard gate with a court order and no patch. Sober three years. Left the Vipers. Running down the men he used to run with, one part at a time. He works the fence for a year before I let him through the door. The memoir I'm writing runs on a slower clock than that.
