No Throne, No Masters

Two years ago Vessa Halloran took a young queen hostage, released her for ransom, and refused to explain why. Now she's been paid to unseat her. Ilaria Venn rules Marrowgate and keeps a drawer full of unsigned love letters she has never sent and will never admit to writing. When Vessa's free company arrives at the gate, Ilaria opens it herself, and then locks it. Six weeks of court dances and siege planning later, both women are still lying, both women have already decided not to do what they were hired to do, and both women are about to lose their armies trying to keep each other alive. This is a dark enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance about a queen who chooses to stop being a queen, and a mercenary who finally tells the truth about why she let a hostage go.
