No Rank, No Ceiling

Edda Marchetti-Wolff has designed one building she would put her name on, and two days after she submits for it, a shell company she has never heard of takes it away. Her uncle Sal can get it back. Sal can get almost anything back, and that has been the problem for nine years — since the day Edda's father fell off a scaffold on a site Sal approved and Sal paid an inspector to write it down as wind. He offers her the truth, and the truth is worth one public contract. What nobody accounts for is that Sal has stopped wanting to be the man who can get things back. He chooses her building over the family that built him. He walks into a grand jury with two documents that have his signature on them. He does twenty-two months and does not appeal. Edda finishes the hub. It takes her four years, and when the lobby plaque is bolted to the wall it has two names on it, and the second one is his.
