Henley Pruitt runs the feed store her grandfather built and has never let a man in the door — not once in thirty years. When Devlin Cross rides back into Bitter Creek at the head of the Hollow Ridge MC, she remembers a summer when she was nineteen and he promised he'd come back for her. Eleven years late is better than never. They marry in October, in the back office, with two witnesses and no flowers. In November, on a shared cloud account, Henley finds a screenshot: Dev in a Roanoke hotel room, his road name carved into a headboard above a woman she has never met. She doesn't scream. She files for annulment, sells the feed store to a co-op, moves her mother to Charlottesville, and starts over in an insurance office. Two years later Dev appears at her office with an affidavit from the woman in the photo — a U.S. marshal — and a chain-of-custody log showing the hotel room was a federal wire drop.
