His Infuriating Familiar

Marek Solvang is the most famous witch alive, which would be fine if he'd chosen it. Someone has been filming his spellwork for eight months, and someone has been making sure every clip shows him failing. His familiar died two years ago. Nothing has answered his call since. Then a woman from animal control shows up on his porch holding a cat that won't stop screaming and a familiar bond that was supposed to be over. Sasha Oyelaran doesn't believe in any of this. She also can't seem to put the cat down. Moving in was supposed to be temporary — a bedroom, a litter box, a rule about not touching the wards. But there's a council vote in three weeks, someone is editing the footage on purpose, and Sasha has magic she never knew she had, in a city that does not forgive unregistered anything.
