Her Quiet Understudy

Eleven years of waiting in the wings. One night under the lights. One body in the lift. Sabine Roux has understudied the same role for over a decade and never once been called. When the lead collapses on press night, Sabine walks out under the lights and the reviews call her the discovery of the decade. Two weeks later that lead is dead in the costume lift, and the building has a hundred sets of fingerprints and not one clean answer. Then Sabine finds the research the dead woman had been doing: the 1998 fire that killed Sabine's mother, the crew list that doesn't add up, and one name quietly missing from the company records for twenty years. Nobody murdered Margot Dwyer. Someone covered for Sabine, twenty years ago, and has been covering ever since. A slow-burn psychological thriller about talent, guilt, and the roles we keep playing to stay employed.
