Held by the Don

Gabriela Sosa has thirty-two fifth graders, a rent-controlled apartment, and no idea that her landlord's business is the Ochoa cartel. Then the wrong car goes down the wrong street at the wrong moment, and Gabi becomes the only witness in a family that doesn't leave witnesses. Ismael Ochoa has spent ten years making peace with the parts of the job he can't fix. He is not supposed to like her. He is not supposed to let her call her class from his kitchen, or defend her to his mother, or stand in the garden with her at two in the morning when neither of them can sleep. The extortion scheme is the one thing he has refused for years. Five days is enough time for Gabi to prove she can refuse too — and enough time for him to realize what it will cost him to keep her safe from the people he works for.
