A dockworker sat at a marina counter three days ago, ordered eggs over easy, and told a Coast Guard lieutenant he had seen things at Berth Seven he could not sleep through. Vittorio Ferrara recites it back to him like a grocery list, nods at the kid with the dagger tattoo, and watches the bubbles. He counts them the way his father taught him to count the seconds between lightning and thunder. Across the bay, in a studio above a laundromat, Natalia Vega cannot sleep either.
