Rainwater and cigar smoke. That is what hits Gianna Vitale first, before the door opens, before the DeLuca house swallows her whole. The table is set. A leather ledger, column after column of names and dates and sums, and a debt that doubles overnight in handwriting that belongs to neither her father nor Matteo DeLuca.
