Burned by the Volkov Heir

Detective Sonya Reyes has chased the same fire pattern for three years: eight arsons, one insurance company, no convictions. When she's pulled off the case and suspended, she walks the last warehouse address alone and finds the man she's been hunting carrying a body out of the smoke. Anton Volkov doesn't kill her there. He takes her to a locked apartment in Sheepshead Bay, because a witness alive in a burned warehouse is worth more to him than one dead. Nine days later, Sonya has found his handwritten log — every building he's burned for his uncle, every person he carried out first. The real arsonist is the head of the family, and he knows she's inside the apartment. Anton shoots him on the rug, walks into the precinct with his hands up, and gives the detective back her badge with two years left on the clock.
